Pumped...

Watching someone round to the nearest dollar at the gas station... captivates and fascinates me Every. Single. Time.

You know the scene: you’re standing there, holding the nozzle, watching the numbers climb. The total’s at $38.47, and instead of just letting it go, you start to slow down, easing up on the trigger, trying to finesse it to exactly $39.00. And then, what do you get? $39.01. Or, worse, $39.05. And then you start the process all over again, trying to land on the perfect number like it’s some sort of precision sport. All this for what? For the satisfaction of seeing those neat, round numbers? I don’t get it.

It’s like this bizarre ritual, as if somehow landing on the exact dollar amount is going to magically make the gas last longer. And can we talk about the pressure? The sheer anxiety of trying to stop at the right moment, especially when the pump decides to speed up or slow down out of nowhere, like it’s messing with you on purpose. My heart races just thinking about it.

But still, people treat it like a life-or-death mission, standing there with that determined look, fingers poised on the trigger, ready to pounce as soon as it hits that magic number. And let’s be real: opting out of this silly ritual will not impact your end of the month budget calculations- unless, of course every other transaction on your bank statement is equally obsessive.

Here’s my deal: I’m going to keep letting the pump do its thing. I’ve got enough on my plate without worrying about whether I can land exactly on $40.00. Much less, risk hating myself for the rest of the day because I was foolish enough to even try and landed at $40.01. Now, that would eat me alive.

Let’s keep it simple, folks. Sometimes close enough really is good enough.
